Microsoft concluded its E3 press conference with an unexpected hardware announcement. But instead of revealing a new console or accessory like a gamepad or VR headset, Microsoft announced a mini fridge.
Designed to look just like an Xbox Series X game console, but somewhat larger, the Xbox mini fridge is the punchline to a joke that has circled the web since the Series X was first revealed in 2019 – that it looks like a fridge.

The company promised to make the fridge after defeating Skittles in a Twitter poll in April 2021. Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg promised at the time that, if Xbox won, the company would make a Series X mini fridge. Xbox won by the slimmest of margins, taking 50.5 percent of the vote, and minutes later Greenberg confirmed Micrisoft's intentions to make the fridge, and that Skittles would be sent the first one.
Microsoft hasn't said much else about the fridge, and we won't know what the price will be, but an announcement video shows it should be able to hold around 10 regular drinks cans across its three compartments.
This isn't the first time Microsoft has got onboard with the joke about its game console looking like a fridge. In November 2020 the company gave away a full-sized Xbox Series X fridge, and clearly it is keen to lean further into the joke with the Xbox Mini Fridge.
The company describes it as being "the world's most powerful mini fridge," and highlights its "Xbox Velocity Cooling Architecture," named after the Series X console's own Velocity Architecture.
