Google/Chrysler Self-Driving Minivan Walk The Runway
Waymo Unveiled Consumers got their first sneak peak at the new self-driving cars from Waymo—the former Google project. The Google/Chrysler autonomous cars are Pacifica Hybrid minivans which are now being kitted out with Waymo technology. There are 100 in total, for now, and they're expected to hit the streets for testing in 2017. The cars were developed in Michigan, which is swiftly growing in an autonomous vehicle center for automakers including GM. (Via USA Today)
Lenovo 2017 Lenovo plans to release even more devices with Project Tango tech inside. Project Tango is a Google platform that supports augmented reality on mobile devices, and Lenovo released the first product with Tango this year: the Phab 3 Pro. (Via Android Headlines)
Apple Re-Commits Tim Cook doesn't want Mac people to lose the love. In a message board post to Apple employees, Cook says that new desktops are absolutely still on the radar for the computer company—even "strategic," according to Tech Crunch story which quotes from the note. They state Cook saying that "...we have great desktops in our roadmap."
Drone Pilot Boom The number of drone pilots certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is now up to 23,000—with the number of registered drones at about 550,000. Nano drones, and many toy drones, do not require FAA registration. But those who want to fly a nor a pilots license, any quadcopter that weighs over .55 pounds needs a licensed commercial drone operator to fly. (Via Digital Trends)
