Samsung is putting a smart energy meter in SmartThings app
Samsung customers can now check what their appliances are consuming in terms of energy usage, and even get tips on how to reduce that energy load as well through a new service called SmartThings Energy.
The service, which will be free for all Samsung customers, will pick up on appliances in homes that are connected to the SmartThings app. They'll be able to check on energy usage on one specific device — or look collectively at the energy used by the entire group together, and see past usage levels and compare how they're doing.
There will be suggestions as well within this new section of the SmartThings app, including ideas on how to reduce energy needed to run an appliance like under packing a refrigerator. And the service will be able to send alerts as well, notifying people when they are using what may be over their monthly target, and also they may get an alert if the service detects that an appliance is on, that can be turned off. (Although that will not be possible in the app.)
While the service will appear in the app, people will need to have compatible devices into the app including some of the newer products including the Samsung Family Hub, washer, dryers, the Powerbot vacuum and more. People will then next tap on the "Life" tab, and from there select SmartThings Energy and download the SmartThings Energy driver.
The app will update starting today, and customers should be able to find the new service, and use it, immediately.
