Pioneer debuts a new thin NEX receiver that fits even more cars

Pioneer's latest receiver makes it possible for even more cars to get updated with its in-dash NEX receivers. Called the DMH-WC5700NEX, the device is a modular device that brings smart controls — and voice assistants — into a car.

The main push is how Pioneer understands the limitations that many cars have to add an after-market receiver into their dash. Yet many car owners want to add updated and modern features like a touchscreen, such as the one on the new Pioneer, which can control everything from playing music to pulling up phone call history and even hearing the weather.

The new 6.8-inch capacitive touchscreen will work with Android Auto, Amazon Alexa and Siri through Apple CarPlay, and is very similar in design to the 9-inch DMH-WC6600NEX that Pioneer launched in 2020. Features will include Bluetooth connectivity for streaming and hands-free support, a built-in HD radio, and the device will also be SiriusXM Ready.

Hands free features will include gesture control, the ability to pull up contacts and even recent calls. There's also going to be support — via Alexa — to add items to an Amazon shopping list.

For Pioneer, the new receiver opens the door to car owners of late model Chevrolet vehicles, like the Camaro and the Silverado, who may have wanted to add voice assistants and smart controls to their dash, but have been blocked because of design constraints.

Pioneer expect the receiver will have a target price of about $600, right in line with the rest of the NEX receivers, and they are planning for it to go on sale in the summer of 2021.
