How to change Nest Hub (2nd Gen) Sleep Sensing settings
The Nest Hub (2nd Gen) has a unique feature, specific to the display and to any other Nest device — Sleep Sensing. With this new ability, people can collect details about how well they sleep, from their respiratory rate to even whether they snore or not. The tool uses select sensors to pick up on movement, sound, light and temperature.
What also unique about this feature is you can pause it as well, and then turn it back on when you're ready to use Sleep Sensing. You can also disable select settings too — including the sound events. And you can even completely turn it off if you choose and use the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) as a standard Google display.
Whatever you choose, here's how to turn these off and on through your Google Home app.
How to pause Sleep Sensing
You can turn off Sleep Sensing through the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) itself, which actually just pauses the feature for a day or however long you want.. To take this step:
- Swipe up from the bottom to the top on the display
- Press on the image of the bed
- This will turn off the feature, and you'll also see an icon of a bed with a line through it on the upper right of the screen letting you know it's turned off.
- To turn it back on, repeat the steps above until you see the bed icon without a line through it.
To pause sound events tracking
You can temporarily pause the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) from tracking sound events while you sleep by actually just turning off the microphone. This just stops the device from being able to hear anything around it — including whether you're snoring or coughing while sleeping.
To turn off the microphone on the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) just go to the back of the display and look for the switch at the top. Toggle this to right, which will show an orange color if it's in the off position.

To turn off sound events tracking
Sleep Sensing can track sound events including snoring and coughing. You may have activated this tool when you set up Sleep Sensing, and perhaps you want to turn this off at some point, but still use the main feature itself.
To turn off sound events tracking:
- Open the Google Home app
- Scroll down to the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) device in the room where you've placed it. Or look for the name you'll give it instead.
- Tap on the device
- Click on the wheel
- Click on "Sleep Sensing"
- Click on "Deactivate sound events tracking
- "Click on "Deactivate"
Do note that in taking this step, if you ever want to start tracking whether you cough or snore, you will need to set up Sleep Sensing again to get this feature back.
To completely deactivate Sleep Sensing:
Taking this step through the Google Home app will actually deactivate the feature. This means your past data will still be visible through Google Fit, but if you want to start using it again you will need to set this up from the beginning again. To do this:
- Open the Google Home app
- Scroll down to the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) device in the room where you've placed it. Or look for the name you'll give it instead.
- Tap on the device
- Click on the wheel
- Click on "Sleep Sensing"
- Click on "Deactivate Sleep Sensing"
- You then just click "Deactivate"
You can also choose here to turn off Google Assistant's ability to access your past sleep data from other Google and Nest devices. That is available through a box you can click on this screen as well.
