March Madness in VR: Here’s how to watch
College basketball fans are gearing up for March Madness, when Men's Division 1 teams block, dribble and dunk for three weeks to be the national champions. For those who want more options that watching it live on the TV, the NCAA is pushing out virtual reality (VR) games for the third year in a row.
Viewers need either a Google Daydream or Gear VR headset (and phones that work with these devices) in order to download the NCAA March Madness Live VR app. But with those, fans can pick up 21 games live, including the Final Four and the National Championship Game on April 2.
VR games, however, are not free. While you can pick up virtual tickets for $2.99 per game, you can also pay a single fee of $21.99 for all the games. The NCAA promises some extras for the VR experience including seeing the game through cameras at the court level, and commentary about the game as its happening. You can also watch recaps after the games, in VR of course.
To start, first, download the NCAA March Madness Live VR app for either the Gear VR from the Oculus app on or from the Google Play Store for a Google Daydream headset.
The app is then in the app library of your device and you can tap into it for games. Each game will present the two ticket options. If you've bought a ticket that covers the entire tournament you'll be able to view the games immediately. But you can buy individual tickets on a game by game basis before they start.
The NCAA has more details on its site on how to sign up for VR tickets as a list of all the games and their schedule.
