LifeShield adds Z-Wave support to its home security system
LifeShield just expanded the way home owners can use the home security service — working with Z-Wave products from smart lights to locks, garage doors and smart thermostats on both iOS and Android mobile devices as well as through web apps.
These devices will also be controllable through voice through Amazon Alexa and IFTTT, if the home devices are connected through LifeShield's S30 base which is its wireless hub.
Founded in 2004, LifeShield has hopscotched through some ownership changes in recent years. Sold to DIRECTV in 2013, the home security company was bought back after AT&T bought the home security company. An investment firm, Hawk Capital Partners, then bought the company in 2017.
The home security system market is undergoing some upheaval as smart devices have made it possible for consumers to create their own security systems, including getting notification through free apps.
Video doorbells, home security cameras and even window and door sensors are fairly easy to install in a single day — and rarely require high monthly fees usually charged by professionally home security companies. The difference, however, is that professional services often come with 24/7 monitoring — and someone you can contact at any time, by phone, who will get you help when needed.
LifeShield is a bit of a hybrid between DIY and professionally-installed as customers can use their own devices, or install free gadgets provided by LifeShied. The company also supports notifications on clients' iOS and Android mobile device is movement is detected by one of the home security cameras, letting them tap into live video.
Since LifeShield can be contrrolled by Amazon Alexa, you can check out The GearBrain, our smart home compatibility checker to see the other compatible products that work with Amazon Alexa which might work with LifeShield.
