Flip a Lenovo PC into an Alexa Show Mode by just asking out loud
Lenovo PCs are getting an added boost from voice assistant Alexa, with the ability to transform into an Echo Show-like display. What that means is some laptops and desktop computers from the brand will be able to switch modes, with the screen flipping into one that looks like an Echo Show, with weather and calendar details linked to an Amazon Alexa account displayed.
Even more keenly, the new feature will bring more voice control to Lenovo machines, so people will be able to speak to Alexa without having to type in commands and requests related to Amazon's voice assistant. For people that means they can play music, bring up apps, request information online, ask about the weather or even upcoming events via Alexa. PCs with far-field technology will also support Alexa hearing any request, even if music is playing.
In Show Mode, Alexa can also link up to and connect to other Alexa-enabled devices, which means it can act as a smart home controller, operating and linking up to smart devices that work with Amazon's voice assistant.
Lenovo has several devices that link up with Alexa and with Google Assistant, Google's dedicated voice assistant, already in play. These include the Lenovo Smart Clock, and the more recently launched Smart Clock Essential, which went on sale in 2020.
Some of Lenovo's smart displays and also tap into Alexa and Google Assistant, turning those devices into displays dedicated to the voice assistants as well. But the upcoming feature now brings that ability right into Lenovo computers.
The new feature will appear on specific PCs, including select Yoga's including the new Lenovo Yoga AIO 7 desktop with Windows 10, as well as IdeaPad laptops, and will launch in the second quarter of 2021.
