iPhone 7 Reviews in 120 Seconds
Considering an upgrade to the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus but don't have the time to scan through all the reviews? We've done it for you. If you have two minutes, we can give you the updates on the brief. Here we go.
Home Button Blah
Engadget's Chris Velazco says his colleagues "recoiled" when first using the new virtual home button. And while the feeling of having the button buzz when he pressed it bothered him, he eventually got to where using the original home button felt odd.
Audio Jack Grumbles
CNET's Scott Stein is clear on his thoughts, labeling the lack of a headphone jack "The Bad" in his review. The missing headphone jack is something Apple says it courageously removed. (Their word, not ours.) But in taking the port out, the new smartphone is now water resistant. How resistant? Very.
Water Resistant
Reviewers are almost unanimously blown away by how water resistant the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have become. USA Today's Edward C. Baig took a shower with his smartphone, even dropping his iPhone 7 Plus into a fishbowl. No problems. (And no fish were harmed in the process.) Engadget's Velazco even dunked his in a pitcher of beer. (Points for creativity and grossness.)
Memory Increase
Recode's Walt Mossberg says the upgrade in memory — starting at 32 GB for the lower price model now — "is long overdue," he says. The added memory is going to be a big boon to iPhone users who are not unfamiliar with photos and apps eating into their memory, and quickly.
Battery Boost
No surprise here: This isn't a smartphone that is going to last for days without a charge. Ars Technica's Andrew Cunningham has done an exhaustive job looking at the battery life on the new iPhone putting it through Wi-Fi testing against four other iPhones plus other brands. Bottom line? The iPhone 7 Plus runs the longest — 803 minutes. The iPhone 7 runs 726 minutes, fourth fastest.
Camera Rocks
New photos snapped on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus? Amazing says all the reviewers. The Wall Street Journal's Geoffrey A Fowler particularly liked the low-light features which allowed him to snap a image of his buddy in a dim bar with a beer.
Thumbs Up, Way Up
Finally, The New York Times's Brian X. Chen notes that the iPhone 7 while the missing audio jack is "irritating," but, still, Chen has "hopped on the 7 train," he writes.
