New Cync app, formerly C by GE, is starting to roll out
The transition from C by GE to Cync is about to complete with the roll out of the new app in the coming week. Existing C by GE apps should switch to the new Cync app on their own as long as people have automatic updates enabled on their smartphones.
The decision to rebrand C by GE to Cync, announced in January 2021, was made to expand the brand's identity to more than lighting into other smart home devices including indoor security camera, smart plugs and switches.
A newly designed app was also part of the rebranding, and includes elements from Savant woven into the look and toolkit, which includes allowing people to name products and also upload photos of rooms so they can change the way the app looks for them.
They will be asked to log-in again once the Cync app installs, and also verify their email address. From there, two-factor authentication will be enabled.
All existing data, device connections and settings will roll over to the new Cync app. And if Alexa and Google Assistant are already tied to the C by GE app as well, they will continue to work with the new Cync app as well. But people will need to be on iOS 14 and up or Android 8 and up for the new app to work.
Cync will allow people to remain on the existing C by GE app for now, if they chose or if their operating system can't be updated to support Cync. There's also a troubleshooting page for anyone who is having trouble downloading the new Cync app, or has additional questions about how the new app will work in their home.
