How to factory reset your Cync (C by GE) smart lighting system when moving house
When it comes to moving home, it can be tempting to leave your smart lighting system behind. The new property might have different bulb fixtures, for a start, and you might get a better price from the buyer if the system remains in place.
But whatever the reason for leaving the lights behind, you'll want to make sure the entire system is fully reset before moving out and handing over the keys.

Unfortunately, it isn't simply a case of handing over ownership of the system to the buyers, automation and all. Instead, a reset ensures you are fully logged out and the buyer can set everything up as if they are building the system for the first time.
In this article, we will look at factory resetting smart lighting from C by GE, which recently had its name changed to Cync. Despite the rebranding, the instructions are the same for all C by GE and Cync devices.
How to factory reset smart bulbs from C by GE and Cync
To factory reset a C by GE or Cync bulb:
- Start with the light switched off for at least five seconds
- Turn the light on for eight seconds
- Turn the light off for two seconds
- Repeat this process five more times
- Yes, really. On, off. On, off. On, off. On, off. On, off.
- The bulb will flash three times if the reset has been successful
Cync says that three-way dimming lamps, rotary dials or multi-functions switches will not perform this reset correctly, so you'll need to fit the bulb to a socket controlled with an on/off wall switch, or to a lamp connected to an on/off wall outlet.
How to factory reset smart light strips from C by GE and Cync
Light strips made in 2020 and beyond have a reset button on their control unit. Press and hold this for 10 seconds to perform a factory reset.
If your light strip was bought prior to 2020, then you need to reset the device with a timed sequence. Plug the strip into a power outlet, then unplug the wall plug from the power adapter, and plug it back in again. Next, follow the same on/off instructions detailed in the previous section, which are:
- Start with the light switched off for at least five seconds
- Turn the light on for eight seconds
- Turn the light off for two seconds
- Repeat this process five more times
- The strip will flash three times if the reset has been successful
How to factory reset wired switches from C by GE and Cync
Next it's time to look at C by GE wired light switches. The instructions for the button switch with dimmer and the paddle switch are the same, and go like this:
Press and hold the power button on the circle/paddle until the light turns red, then let go. The light indicator will blink blue to show the switch has successfully been reset.
For a toggle switch, it's slightly different:
Press up on the toggle switch until the LED turns red, then let go. The light will blink blue once to show it has been reset.

How to factory reset the C-Reach Smart Bridge from C by GE and Cync
Doing this will unpair all of your C by GE and Cync devices connected to the bridge. To connect them again, you will need to factory reset each light and switch using the above instructions, then add them all to the bridge again. To reset the bridge:
- Unplug your C-Reach from the wall outlet
- While holding the side button, plug it back into the wall and keep holding the button for at least 10 seconds
- All three LEDS will start flashing red to show the C-Reach has been reset
