Elon Musk is warning about AI. Again.
Elon Musk is talking, again, about the potential doom that a sentient artificial intelligence (A.I.) could one day bring. Tesla's CEO appears in a documentary about the future of A.I. and where it is heading in terms of its ability, as compared to humans.
"A.I. doesn't have to be evil to destroy humanity," says Musk in the film. "If A.I. has a goal, and humanity just happens to be in the way, it will destroy humanity as a matter of course, without even thinking about it. No hard feelings. It's just like if we were building a road, and an ant hill happens to be in the way, we don't hate ants. We're just building a road. And so goodbye ant hill."
The film, made by Papercut Films, talks about the "promise and perils," filmmakers write on their site, that A.I. could bring to our lives impacting everything from advertisements to jobs, and beyond.
Musk is just one of 26 experts featured in the movie, which also hears from Google X co-founder Sebastian Thrun and Affectiva CEO Rana el Kaliouby. But Tesla's CEO is one of the more prominent figures, particularly because of his past proclamations about A.I., its possible capabilities, and a future where A.I. will run up against human life.
"We're rapidly heading towards digital super intelligence that far exceeds any human," says Musk in the film. "I think that's very obvious."
