Apple releases 'Do Not Disturb While Driving' in iOS 11 Beta
Apple safety The beta for Apple's newest mobile upgrade dropped this week, and the update includes 'Do Not Disturb While Driving,' mode which effectively prevents you from receiving alerts, including text messages. While the mode does not shut off text messaging—it automatically replies to those who have sent a text that you're driving.
Distracted driving, which happens when you're texting while at the wheel, may lead to 16 percent of all fatal crashes, according to the AAA Foundation. Turning texting alerts off could remove at least one kind of distraction: the urge to read and then text someone back.
You actually have to activate the mode for it to work—and you can personalize the feature so certain people can get their text messages through. You can also set the feature to work on a child's iPhone through parental controls. The feature was announced at WWDC earlier in June, and is currently in beta. Apple expects to release the feature to all iOS users in September.
Alexa + August Amazon Alexa and August Video Door Cam now speak nicely to each other. If you say 'Alexa, show me the front door,' you can see a live video stream from the camera of people or anything moving outside the door on Amazon Echo Show. Other security cameras are also going to be integrated with Show as well including Ring, Arlo, Nest, EZViz, Vivint, Amcrest, Logitech, and IC Realtime.
