August Home Is First Smart Lock to Partner with All Voice Controlled Platforms

Press Release:

GearBrain has been talking about how voice will play in simplifying smart home technology for consumers. We wrote an article last year about "voice being the new app" that talked about voice as the missing link that will make it easier for consumers to build a smart home. At the time, Amazon Echo was selling like hotcakes, with Apple pushing Siri as the digital assistant for its Apple HomeKit technology. Then Google launched Google Home at the end of last year, and we now have three, thriving voice controlled digital assistants meant to help consumers build and control their home automation. Today, August Home Inc. announces its the first smart lock that can be run by all three digital assistants.

August Home's award-winning August Smart Lock will now work with Google Assistant on Google Home. August Home currently supports Apple HomeKit with Siri and Amazon's voice-controlled system called Alexa. With the support of Google Assistant, August Smart Lock owners will now have the flexibility to choose the preferred platform and device for controlling their own August Smart Lock.

"As the first company to support all three major voice control platforms, we are giving our customers the ultimate flexibility to choose their preferred platform and device to integrate with the August Smart Lock," said Jason Johnson, CEO of August Home Inc.

Johnson continued, "Voice control continues to be a significant driver of smart home adoption and the Google Assistant on Google Home is a key partner in delivering a great user experience. "Today users can lock and check the status of their lock using the Google Assistant. We are also working with the Google team to develop a safe and secure way to allow unlocking via Google Assistant."

How will Google Assistant work with August Smart Locks? It's simple. If you own a Google Assistant, you will be able to set up the device to lock your August Smart Lock by just saying, "Ok Google, talk to August to lock my door." You will also be able to check on the status of your lock. August is working with Google to add additional features, such as "unlocking your door," that will be available later this year. However, remember when using your August Lock with Google Assistant-enabled devices, you will need an August Connect Wi-Fi bridge. The bridge will connect the Bluetooth lock to your Wi-Fi, allowing you to connect to Google Home and your Google Assistant.

How do you know if your current August Lock is compatible with Google Assistant? You are good to go if you have an August Smart Lock 1st or 2nd generation smart lock. Google Assistant is compatible with these smart locks. All August Home devices, such as August Smart Locks, August Connect Wi-Fi bridge are available through major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy and Target.
