Wearables have been smart devices we have been testing at GearBrain for the past nine years. We have seen these smart devices morph into different types of wearables. Some smartwatches can be used for working out but can transform into stylish watches for dinner parties by changing the band. Some fitness trackers can track your workouts and provide valuable health information like your blood pressure, how well you sleep, heart health (ECG), and stress levels. Recently, I got to test a new smartwatch that combines a smartwatch and fitness tracker with robust health tracking. It's by Amazfit T-Rex 3 Smartwatch, their third generation of the T-Rex line. This watch is designed for those who work out and want to keep an eye on everything they do and their health, no matter where they work out. Check out what I learned from wearing this smartwatch for the past few months.

How to set up your Amazfit T-Rex 3 SmartWatch?
Pair your Amazfit T-Rex 3 Smartwatch with a compatible smartphone using Zepp AppGearBrain
The setup for the T-Rex 3 smartwatch is straightforward. First, take it out of the box and charge it. While charging, download the Zepp app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Create an account, then pair the watch with the Zepp app on your smartphone as the watch is charging. When pairing, the screen on the watch will show the downloading process, and you will need to interact with the watch to complete the pairing process. Once completed and the watch is charged, you can start setting up alerts and features you wish to use. The setup process takes a few minutes.
How much does the AmazFit T-Rex 3 Cost?
The Amazafit T-Rex 3 Smartwatch has an MSRP of $279.99 and is available on the company sites of Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and other online electronic retailers. Is this a reasonable price? If you compare the Amazfit T-Rex 3 to other smartwatches designed for outdoor workout enthusiasts with similar features, the AmazFit T-Rex 3 is an excellent price. Take, for instance, Apple Watch Ultra 2. This is the one smartwatch with a robust offering in terms of sports modes and fitness/health tracking capabilities, and it is double the cost of the Amazfit T-Rex 3.
Testing Results - How well did Amazfit T-Rex 3 do when we tested it for a few months
Depending on the display's screen setting, you could get glare when outside which makes it hard for you to see the display on the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Smartwatchwww.gearbrain.com
After testing the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Smartwatch for several months, I found it to be a solid, rugged option with much to offer, particularly for outdoor fitness enthusiasts. The large face and multiple button options simplify navigating the watch, though the size may not be for everyone. The selection of watch displays and data tracked through the Zepp app is extensive—ideal for data lovers but potentially overwhelming for some. The watch's lack of integration with voice assistants like Siri and Google Assistant was a drawback, as was the need to upload music to the Zepp app instead of streaming directly. However, the Zepp Flow feature, powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o, is innovative, providing unique AI coaching and sleep assessment features for a subscription fee. Battery life is one of the T-Rex 3's biggest strengths, lasting over 80 days in clock mode, 32 days with GPS off, and up to 27 days in typical use, which is excellent for a feature-rich smartwatch.
Outdoor features, including mapping, navigation, and high-precision tracking, were beneficial for hiking and trail running, though the watch screen can be hard to read in bright sunlight. The strap felt flimsy for intense workouts so that a replacement might be necessary for heavy users. The T-Rex 3 is compatible with many third-party fitness apps and has basic Bluetooth connectivity for heart rate and power meters, but some features, like Sonos control, were hard to locate. At $279.99, the T-Rex 3 provides nearly the same functionality as the much pricier Apple Watch Ultra 2 without features like texting or full music streaming.

It's an excellent alternative for those who want the capabilities of an Apple Watch Ultra 2 without the high cost or for those seeking an AI-powered fitness companion through Zepp Flow's coaching and health insights.
Summary
After testing this smartwatch for several weeks, I can say the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Smartwatch is an impressive blend of durability, advanced fitness features, and affordability, making it an excellent option for adventure seekers and enthusiasts. Its extensive battery life, rugged design, and compatibility with popular health and fitness apps position it as a strong competitor among outdoor smartwatches, particularly for those prioritizing performance over extras like streaming and voice assistants. While the lack of certain integrations may be a drawback for some, its reliable fitness tracking, navigational tools, and Zepp Flow's AI coaching make it an outstanding choice at $279.99—offering excellent value compared to higher-end options like the Apple Watch Ultra 2. For anyone looking for a smartwatch that can keep up with rigorous outdoor activity while delivering practical insights and essential tracking, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 delivers on all fronts.
